Ty Herndon to headline Mayfly Music Festival
The Dundee Area Business Association announces that its annual Mayfly Music Festival will be held on Saturday, June 16 at Ford Park behind the Old Mill. Live music will be held from noon to 11 p.m.

This year’s line-up includes national country recording star, Ty Herndon. His last Top 5 hit, “Hands of a Working Man” ended an amazing 26-week run on the charts last June. His latest album “Steam” is Ty Herndon’s fourth album, and it features an energetic sound that’s a little bit country and a little bit rock ‘n’ roll. He also picked out the songs for his album, and road-tested each one before committing them to the album. He included a favorite tune, “You Can Leave Your Hat On,” by Randy Newman and popularized by Joe Cocker, that he has been playing in concert for seven years.

“Since this album has songs like ‘Lookin’ for the Good Life,’ ‘Steam,’ ‘I’ve Been Looking for a Love Like That,’ very grooving, fun, confident songs, it finally made sense to include it,” said Herndon.

The album also includes some gentle, reflective numbers including “Pray For Me,” which mines the spirituality Herndon learned being raised in and around the church in Alabama. He has been singing and performing since he was seven years old. So far, Herndon has had three albums which sold more than 1.5 million copies, and three number one hits, “It Must Be Love,” “What Mattered Most,” and “Living in the Moment,” which have already made him a leading force in country music.

The Mayfly Music Festival will feature more than music in its second year. There will be plenty of food, games for the kids offered by the Old Mill Museum Association as well as some commercial amusements.

Sean McClellan, President of the Dundee Area Business Association said, “One of the most important aspects of the festival is the participation of local non-profit groups to do their own fundraisers.”
Last year money was raised with a duck race for the Dundee Community Schools scholarship fund; food was provided by various groups including the Dundee Moose chapter, Dundee Jaycees and St. John Lutheran Church.

“We would like to double the number of groups participating this year. We already are getting a lot of calls and have added the Dundee Senior Citizens group as well as retained all the groups from last year,” Mr. McClellan added.

Last year’s Mayfly Music Festival raised over $30,000. And this year’s budget is going to be closer to $40,000. All funds were given by the generosity of sponsors such as the Village of Dundee, Monroe County Tourism Bureau, La-Z-Boy Chair Co., Complete Plumbing & Heating, Holnam, Extra Space Self Storage, Sheldon Lumber Co., Swan Creek Candle Co., Michigan Gas Utilities, Roe Insurance Agency, Monroe Bank & Trust, United Bank & Trust and many others. Most of those sponsors have expressed interest in contributing to this year’s festival as well. To donate or participate call the Dundee Area Business Association at 734-529-2688 or 734-529-3398.

One of this year’s biggest fundraisers will be a raffle of a full size pick-up truck. The winner will have a choice of a loaded Ford F-150 from Spirit Ford in Dundee or a loaded Chevrolet Silverado from Phillips Automotive Group in Milan. Additional winners will be drawn for Cabela’s merchandise, a hot air balloon ride and a $1,500 golf table from Lezlie’s Hearth and Home. Tickets will be $5 each and will be available from all Dundee Area Business Association members and local retailers. Tickets will also be sold several weekends at Cabela’s in Dundee.
