Mayfly Music Festival This Weekend
Dundee Area Business Association is sponsoring its third annual Mayfly Music Festival on Friday and Saturday, June 20 and 21. There is no admission fee for this years festival; all events are free of charge.
In addition to the music, there will be a beer tent and food vendors, childrens games, canoe rides, inflat-ables, festival store and a space simulator.
The gates open on Friday night at 5 p.m. for a pop and rock concert.
The band Ides of March is the headliner, and takes the stage at 9 p.m. The group is best known for its 1970 hit song Vehicle. The band has been playing together for 37 years. Lead singer Jim Peterik also achieved success as co-founder of the band Survivor.
The band Live Wire opens on Friday night at 7 p.m.
The big event is Saturday, June 21 with the theme of The Women of Country Come Home to Michigan, because the three featured country music artists are all originally from this state. The headliner is Anita Cochran, who is set to take the stage at 9:30 p.m
Anita Cochran is best known for her 1997 release Back to You. She had a number one hit duet with Steve Wariner in 1998 called What If I Said. She also released an album, Anita in 1999.
One of the featured performers, Kathy Ford takes the stage from 8-9 p.m. and Cherie performs from 7-8 p.m.
Kathy Ford Band is from the Grand Rapids area. And has played the Michigan Festival in East Lansing among others. Cherie is a native of Monroe and has played at the Monroe County Fair.
Opening for them are the bands Stacked Ham, at 4:30 p.m. and The Legends at 3 p.m.
Earlier in the day, local dance studio students will perform, with Peg Harris Dance Studio at 1 p.m. and Dance Xplosion at 2 p.m. The gates open at noon on Saturday.
The Old Mill Museum on Toledo Street will host childrens games on Saturday, May 21 from 1-5 p.m. A Trash and Treasure sale also will be inside the museum.
Also in conjunction with the Mayfly Music Festival, the Dundee Library will conduct a book sale on Saturday, June 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A preview night for Friends of the Library members will be Friday from 6-8 p.m.
