Old Mill plans Harvest Festival for October

Dundee's Old Mill Restoration Committee is hosting its 19th annual "Harvest Festival" on Sunday, Oct. 3 at the Old Mill on Toledo Street, just off M-50. The event name has been changed to better reflect the wide array of activities available.

Admission also has been reduced this year, to encourage more families to attend the festival. Admission is $1 for adults, children under 12 will be admitted free, and parking is free. The festival will feature crafts, food, games, entertainment and harvest treats. The festival is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The craft section will feature a variety of demonstrations, including lacemaking, basket weaving, quilting, tinsmithing, and paper cutting in addition to traditional 19th century crafts and lost arts. The outdoor booths have been expanded to include a greater variety of juried crafts.

Doug Neely and Judy Labun canned apple butter for the Old Mill Restoration Committee's 14th annual Harvest Festival. The event will be held this Sunday, Oct. 3 at the Old Mill and Wolverine Park on Toledo Street.

The Native American encampment of the Bear Clan Women's Society will return. The society will sponsor an afternoon of authentic Native American games and contests.

New this year will be an area devoted to 19th century children's games including the difficult-to-climb Jacob's ladder.

Those who have attended the Old Mill event in the past no brunch is being held in conjunction with the festival this year. However, both the Old Mill Restoration Committee and the Dundee Jaycees will provide food all day. In addition, patrons may pick up many delicious items from the bake sale.

A highlight of the festival will be an apple pie baking contest, with the opportunity to taste the winning entries.

All proceeds from the Harvest Festival go to the maintenance of the Village of Dundee's historic museum in the Old Mill. The museum, which celebrates rural life in Dundee and surrounding areas, will be open during the festival.
