Water district cost less than expected
Residents in the Meanwell-Eggert water district in Dundee Township will pay less than originally estimated.

Dundee Township Clerk Tira Lupu reported on Tuesday, Oct. 12 that the final assessment for each residential parcel will be $12,600. The original estimate was $17,146.

“That’s good news for those residents,” said Mrs. Lupu.

The special assessment roll had to be amended to a 19-year roll instead of a 20-year roll, because it didn’t begin with 2003. Only those residents living in the water district will pay for it.

Bids for the Wells Road water district will be opened November 9 at 10 a.m.; the township board meeting will be held that evening.

The township board is consulting with its attorney to see if land along Lloyd Road constitutes “adjacent” status with village land. The board is contemplating a land transfer request by the owners .

A public hearing was tentatively set for Nov. 9 for the Cress-Salenbien land transfer request for land on M-50.

Holcim US Inc. has requested a tax abatement for its planned improvements.

“They have put in a significant investment in the structure in the last few years,” said Township Supervisor Joanna Uhl. “Further investments will show us they plan to stay; they are a major employer in the community, and also the largest taxpayer until GEMA goes online.”

The tax abatement was requested for 12 years, to have the millage cut in half on personal property only. A public hearing was set for November 9 at 6:30 p.m.

In other business, Dundee Senior Citizens Center asked for a donation to purchase an automated defibrillator, but the township cannot make a cash donation for legal reasons.

The fire department will be seeking bids to replace the 1985 Pierce truck. Funds come from a millage approved by voters.

The board canceled its Tuesday, Oct. 26 regular meeting because there is no business on the horizon, and the township needs time to prepare for the Tuesday, Nov. 2 general election.
