Petersburg water safe to drink
Petersburg municipal water is safe to drink. Earlier this week, a “boil water” advisory was issued because tests revealed a possibility of bacteria in the water.

“We’re not sure what happened,” said Chris Schmidt, water superintendent.

He said it was possible that some of the chlorine in the water broke down on its way to Petersburg. The Monroe city water has to travel 10-12 miles from the pumping station at the fairgrounds on M-50 to get to Petersburg.

“We added a little chlorine and flushed the system,” said Mr. Schmidt. He said he always tests the water and is keeping an eye on it. This has never happened before.

At the city council meeting on Monday, Oct. 18, a discussion was held with an engineer from Arcadis about developing a plan for demolishing the old water pumping station.

The city will be sponsoring a Christmas decorating contest this year, similar to last year.

Election workers were named for the Tuesday, Nov. 2 general election.
