Dundee Scout Troop 511 had a unique attraction at Scout-O-Rama this year. The youth have been learning about aviation from fellow scout Travis Ford, whose father Kerry has built a plane. Mr. Ford is in the process of having the plane FAA certified. The troop will be hiking in New Mexico this summer at the Philmont Boy Scout camp.
Jeremy Potter, Ida Middle School teacher, led sixth graders on an Ida history tour on Friday, May 16. He pointed out some items of interest about the Knapp Building in downtown Ida, which housed the Bank of Ida until the onset of the Great Depression. The current Ida Tavern building was once a livery stable. Story in our print edition.
Grant Wilson of John’s Tree Service in Petersburg showed how he uses a crane to reach branches high in trees. The demonstration was part of Vehicle Career Day at Summerfield Elementary on Friday, May 16. Many local companies participated. More pictures inside.

Kevin helped demonstrate campfire safety and the types of campfires at the Petersburg Cub Scout’s booth at Scout-O-Rama on Saturday, May 17. The troop also had demonstrations on how to select items and pack a backpack.
Scott, Zack and Caleb enjoyed the “Books and Breakfast” event held for second graders and their parents at Summerfield Elementary on Friday, May 16. The second graders have been keeping a journal all year and collecting their creative writing assignments to share with their families.
